Art lessons.

So once upon a time, I taught art lessons out of our house. Its something
I enjoy a great deal, and as far as I can tell I'm a pretty decent teacher,
as I managed to get one student into Pratt in NYC.
I was recently offered studio space at a small art school (tiny private school,
not a college) here in Hampden, Im just testing the waters here, is there
anyone out there interested in taking classes from me?
I have two basic ways that I teach, In general, unless you really have
your chops together, I teach art 101 bootcamp. Which is basically,
starting from zero, and learning how to see, and draw the figure, and
other objects. We work from gesture drawings, into still lifes, and from there
we move slowly into painting, and process stuff.
Option two, is the tricks class, which is basically, a student who already
knows the above, and just wants to know about different painting techniques
etc. Its way less structured. I don't teach that one very often.
I charge $35 per two hour class.
So how bout it folks, anyone interested?

Isabel Burning review!!

ISABEL BURNING by Donna Lynch (2008 Raw Dog Screaming Press / 232pp. / hc & tp / to be released August, 2008)
Called by the charismatic Dr. Edward Grace to be a live-in helper, Isabel leaves the average life she has led and moves into the isolated Grace Mansion. While her daily duties are mundane, she soon begins to develop a closer relationship with her boss (he being a much older man), and he eventually lets her in on an amazing discovery he has dedicated his life to. Their relationship becomes romantic, and Dr. Grace slowly reveals more about his past, making Isabel feel as if she's now involved with the most incredible man on earth. And in a way, she is.
ISABEL BURNING is the debut novel from Donna Lynch (she has had two poetry collections and several short stories published), but this is the first I've read from her. This is the first in a planned series dealing with the Grace family, and I'm eager to see if she can keep the series on par with ISABEL as this was simply amazing.
During 90% of this novel, Lynch only uses her two main characters, yet not one sentence is slow or unimportant. Her writing is elegant, yet at times nerve-wracking and unsettling (in a quiet, gothic haunted-house sort of way). The tone of ISABEL BURNING hooked me from the opening paragraph, and despite its length, moved quickly due to the top-notch pacing, moments of surrealism, and fascinating conversations between Dr. Grace and Isabel.
With ghosts, dark family secrets, growing paranoia at every turn and realistic characters to die for, ISABEL BURNING is one of the best debut novels I've read in quite some time.Taken from Horror fiction review.

We've posted just over two hours of footage from a 30 day tour, so keep in mind that you are watching some of the most extreme moments of silliness and insanity.
What you haven't seen were the countless hours of real conversation about every topic under the sun, many silent hours of working, sketching, and thinking, a few moments of stress and fatigue and the numerous situations where we all pulled together to get through them. It would have been much, much harder without his kindness, humor, and generosity.

Well, we are home from the Maiden Voyage tour.
We played our last show on the Island of New York on Monday and after much
drinking and singing left Capt. Voltaire sitting on the docks with his bar wench Jayme.

We are going to get the new album together, after which, we will finish up the EPs.
That was not the original plan, but we didn't expect to be on tour as much as we have been this year.

Actually, we pulled copies aside, and will mail them when we get home.

Things I am learning...

Some things I am learning from these tour videos:
1. I am really not very cool at all.
2. I probably should have listened to my mom when she suggested braces, instead of arguing that no eleven-year-old child should have to endure the torture that is having to wear enormous glasses AND braces.
It's a humbling experience.

Thank you for your many comments. Though I'd like to make it understood that I wasn't fishing for any, just making observations, and feeling a little...exposed, I guess. I've never spent this much time with a camera on me before, so it's been an odd experience. But thank you for seeing me through it. We'll keep posting, crooked teeth and all. ;)

Tour Update Days 1 and 2

Day 1.
Baltimore...Orpheus was sold out....not just sold out...people were being turned away!
The show roooooocked!!!!! What an amazing way to start the tour. Thanks everyone!
Day 2.
Voltaire got settled into his nest in the van quite nicely. We made sure to put fresh bedding
and a new chew toy back there for him. So far so good....
Pittsburgh is also off the hook...and has free wireless....*ding* cant lose there.
Jim and Manny outdid themselves as far as promotion goes, again massive turnout.
I have been recording video, and at some point I will start uploading our totally random
tour bits.
Did I mention that we are doing a new song on the tour? We are pretty jazzed about it, and the
audience seems to be digging it. So thats cool.
Incidentally, we have kind of a flexible set, so if you are planning on hitting any of the shows, and
you want to hear something, let us know, cause if it isn't in the set, and we can do it, we will try to work it in.
If you even consider asking for freebird, expect a swift kick in the groinal-crochidal area....

So...I have this idea for a big ass art project based on Teh Mythos, and I was kinda trying to
pin down why Lovecrafts work is still relevant. I have my theories but I was wondering what the rest
of the world thinks about this..
So tell me little people who live in my computer...
What is it about the Mythos and Lovecrafts work that gets inside your head...literally...
What makes you want to pick up and head off exploring the New England coastline looking for towns full
of inbred fish folk?

Hey guys,
So as some of you know we are kicking off our tour with Voltaire this Friday (April 4th, 9pm in Baltimore at Club Orpheus, tickets still available at the door, plug plug plug).
Anyway...
If you have reserved art or other merchandise, but not yet paid for it, we need your payments by Wednesday of this week in order to ship the work to you before we leave.
If you cannot pay by then, that's OK, we'll still hold the art for you, but it won't be shipped out until we come home in a month (early May).
If you cannot pay by Wednesday and for some reason cannot wait for that month to pass, please let us know ASAP so we can put the piece back into the collection that we take on tour with us.
